  1. Describe the distinguishing characteristics of the Italo-Byzantine style, and explain why medieval artists avoided naturalism in their religious paintings
  2. Identify  and explain the innovative techniques introduced by Giotto, and the significance of these techniques
  3. Explain the concept of Humanism, and how Giotto’s new style of painting can be related to this concept
